Hello from Australia :)
My daughter and I love the book, we would love to purchase more in Australia, however unfortunately I purchased the paperback version from booktopia which came with a matte finish on the pages and a really poor quality paper for children's hands.
The colours were vibrant and wonderful though.
Not a good read
I love that each story has a different meaning and explain in a way that kids understand.
I couldn’t be more impressed! The lesson, the breathing, the feel-good vibe. It’s all perfection!!
My 4.5-year-old and 2.5-year old both LOVE this book, and have it practically memorized. It’s so cute hearing them talk about “serotonin" and “dopamine,” but more importantly, it’s opened up conversations about what’s going on in their brains when they have tough moments. I chose to replace “yucky brain moments” with “tricky brain moments,” when I read, because my kids are prone to feeling shame about their big feelings, and I wanted to keep the language as neutral as possible. So now, my 2-year-old will sometimes tell us that he’s having a “tricky brain moment,” which is huge progress in learning to cope with his emotions! Neither of my kids have ever responded well to the current parenting advice to name the emotion they’re feeling, but they respond much better to Auntie Oxytocin’s words, “You are safe. You are safe. You are safe.” I think this book is a great introduction to what happens in the brain in fight or flight mode that even really little ones can understand, and it will lay the foundation for more detailed conversations in the future. And the illustrations are just beautiful. I’m so happy I got it!
